Dies geht aus einem <a href=\"https:\/\/www.handelsblatt.com\/finanzen\/versicherungen-munich-re-wickelt-einstiges-vorzeige-start-up-relayr-ab-01\/100134751.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Artikel des Handelsblatts<\/a> hervor, laut dem Munich Re das Unternehmen zus\u00e4tzlich zum eigenen Strategie\u2011Switch verkaufe beziehungsweise in den Abbau f\u00fchre. Zum 1. Juli 2025 endet damit die offizielle Gesch\u00e4ftst\u00e4tigkeit von Relayr.<\/h2>\n<h3>Von Hoffnungstr\u00e4ger zum Auslaufmodell<\/h3>\n<p>Im Jahr 2013 als junges Berliner Tech-Start-up gegr\u00fcndet, erlangte Relayr fr\u00fch Anerkennung. Mit dem sogenannten <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golem.de\/news\/relayr-io-have-a-wunderbar-have-a-break-1403-104954-2.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201eWunderbar\u201c-Sensor-Kit, das eine IoT\u2011Infrastruktur im Schokoladentafel-Format lieferte<\/a>, machte sich das Team einen Namen. Zun\u00e4chst am Consumer\u2011Markt aktiv, verlagerte Relayr sp\u00e4ter seinen Fokus hin zu <strong>IIoT\u2011L\u00f6sungen<\/strong>: <strong>Retrofit-Kits<\/strong>, eine <strong>Middleware-Plattform f\u00fcr industrielle Anlagen\u2011Vernetzung<\/strong> und <strong>IoT\u2011Beratung<\/strong> wurden zum Kerngesch\u00e4ft.<\/p>\n<p>Die Wende kam 2016, als Relayr von der Beteiligungsgesellschaft von Munich\u202fRe, Hartford Steam Boiler (HSB), unterst\u00fctzt wurde. Die Kooperation erm\u00f6glichte neuartige Versicherungsl\u00f6sungen f\u00fcr vernetzte Maschinen. Im <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deutsche-startups.de\/2018\/09\/04\/munich-re-relayr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oktober 2018 erwarb HSB Relayr<\/a> f\u00fcr rund 252\u202fMio.\u202fUSD netto, bei einem Gesamtpreis von etwa 300\u202fMio.\u202fUSD.<\/p>\n<h3>Strategischer Kurswechsel bei Munich Re<\/h3>\n<p>Doch im Fr\u00fchjahr 2025 verk\u00fcndete M\u00fcnchen\u202fRe, dass man sich auf das Kerngesch\u00e4ft fokussieren wolle. Die Abwicklung von Relayr erfolgte im Rahmen dieser Neuausrichtung.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Im Zuge der strategischen Neuausrichtung der Innovationsstrategie von Munich Re haben wir uns aus bestimmten Initiativen zur\u00fcckgezogen, um uns auf unser Kerngesch\u00e4ft zu konzentrieren. &#8212; Munich Re<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Bis dahin betrieb Relayr weiterhin IoT-Services \u2013 allerdings verwaiste die einst agil agierende Start-up-Struktur zunehmend in einem klassischen Konzernumfeld, das nach anderen wirtschaftlichen Priorit\u00e4ten agiert. Zwar erhoffte man sich, Versicherungs- und Finanzangebote als Alleinstellungsmerkmal zu etablieren, letztlich f\u00fchrte jedoch die strategische Neuausrichtung zu einem Ende der ersten IIoT-Initiative von Munich\u202fRe.<\/p>\n<h3>Markt- und Branchenumfeld<\/h3>\n<p>Relayr war lange als Vorzeigebeispiel daf\u00fcr gefeiert worden, wie europ\u00e4ische Start-ups eigenst\u00e4ndige Hightech-L\u00f6sungen entwickeln und global skalieren k\u00f6nnen. Mit KI\u2011basierten Predictive\u2011Maintenance\u2011L\u00f6sungen, Edge\u2011Computing und digitaler Fertigungsanalyse hatte sich das Unternehmen im Segment der Industrie 4.0 etabliert und war mehrfach ausgezeichnet worden \u2013 unter anderem auf der Hannover Messe.<\/p>\n<p>Die Kooperation mit Munich\u202fRe wurde als Modell f\u00fcr eine hybride Wertsch\u00f6pfung gesehen: Technologie plus Versicherung \u2013 also Risikoabsicherung f\u00fcr digitale Projekte.
