From Smart Homes to a Smarter World – My Journey with WeSpeakIoT
It all started with a communications protocol. Or rather, with the idea that our homes could be smarter than we are. Back when I helped launch the WeSpeakIoT blog, smart homes were still a fresh, exciting concept full of promise. At the time, I was working for Lemonbeat GmbH, an IoT company based in Dortmund, born from the smart home division of RWE. The goal: rethinking IoT connectivity with focus on building automation.
But technology doesn’t stand still. And neither does my curiosity.
Today, WeSpeakIoT is my personal project. I’m Dennis Knake – a tech enthusiast with over two decades of experience in the IT and telecommunications industry. I’ve worked as an editor for various tech magazines, served as a press officer, and always kept a keen and critical eye on the trends shaping our digital lives.
With WeSpeakIoT, I explore how “smart” our world has really become – from digital infrastructure and everyday tools to AI and the ethical questions that come with it. I test, analyze, and comment. And I keep asking: What truly helps? What’s just hype? And where should we maybe hit pause?
Because smart tech should be more than just a flashy feature.
