From Smart Home to a Smarter World – The Story Behind WeSpeakIoTMy name is Dennis Knake, and I’ve worked in telecommunications for over two decades – not just as an observer, but as someone who has helped shape the industry from the inside.
For more than twenty years, I’ve worked in corporate communications across the telecommunications and IoT industry – at QSC AG (today q.beyond), at Lemonbeat and 1NCE, and currently at Plusnet GmbH (EnBW). Alongside this, I occasionally write as a freelance author for teltarif.de, covering product reviews and current industry topics.
At its core, it has always come back to the same question: how do we communicate with each other? At QSC AG, that meant one of Germany’s first alternative DSL and VoIP networks – communication at the infrastructure and cloud level. At Lemonbeat, a proprietary IoT protocol for device communication in the energy and building sector. At 1NCE, disruptive mobile device connectivity – communication between machines worldwide. And at Plusnet, primarily an open-access platform connecting fiber providers and broadband marketers – communication at the market level and for business customers.
In essence, it has always been about the same things: data, voice, connection. That’s exactly what I want to bring to WeSpeakIoT – taking a closer look at the industry and what drives it. Alongside my own articles, you’ll increasingly find curated guest contributions here from industry experts, including international voices.
WeSpeakIoT isn’t meant to be just another news ticker. I’m less interested in the quick headline than in the story behind it: What development is driving an innovation, what questions does it raise, who’s affected? I provide context and take a stance. Because smart technology – from infrastructure to digital tools to artificial intelligence – rarely raises only technical questions, but ethical and societal ones as well.
