AWS Managed Integrations: AWS announced general availability within AWS IoT Device Management

AWS has announced the general availability of Managed Integrations – a new feature within AWS IoT Device Management. This aims to simplify the control and management of IoT devices from various manufacturers and across multiple connectivity protocols. Developers can now manage a wide range of IoT devices through a single, unified interface – regardless of whether the devices are connected directly, via a hub, or through a third-party cloud.

What are AWS Managed Integrations?
AWS Managed Integrations enable the use of Cloud-to-Cloud (C2C) connectors and device model templates. Even during the preview phase, developers had access to a catalog of pre-built C2C connectors from partners and vendors, as well as over 80 device model templates. With the now released extended functionality, developers can create and publish their own connectors and customize templates to define new device models.
Benefits for Developers
- Faster development: The unified interface and SDKs for devices and hubs supporting ZigBee, Z-Wave, and Wi-Fi accelerate onboarding and management of devices across different manufacturers and standards.
- Flexibility: In addition to pre-built C2C connectors, custom integrations can be created to also connect devices from third-party clouds.
- Scalability: Over 80 device model templates (based on AWS’s Matter data model standard) are available. Custom models can be created flexibly to map individual device capabilities.
- New business opportunities: The integration enables the development of value-added services such as smart home security, energy management, or monitoring solutions for elderly care.
The AWS IoT Console – Central Control for IoT Projects
The AWS IoT Console is the central web interface through which all functions of AWS IoT Device Management can be controlled. Here, developers can:
- Register and manage devices and hubs,
- Set up integrations with just a few clicks,
- Select, customize, or create new device models,
- Monitor the status and data of their IoT devices in real time,
- and add new C2C connectors from the catalog or integrate their own.
AWS Managed Integrations Example
A company wants to control smart thermostats from different manufacturers in a single smart home app. With Managed Integrations, it can centrally manage the devices – regardless of whether they are connected via ZigBee, Z-Wave, or Wi-Fi – and send unified control commands to all devices. The AWS IoT Console also allows the creation of individual device models, for example, for specific functions of a particular thermostat manufacturer.
Availability and Getting Started
Managed Integrations is now available in the Canada (Central) and Europe (Ireland) regions. Further information and a step-by-step guide are provided by AWS in the Developer Guide.
