Smart cities and municipalities in the IoT
Earlier this month, Teradata announced that it was working with Cisco on a “digital transformation solution” for smart cities and communities.
By combining the advantages of the Cisco IoT platform (Cisco Kinetic for Cities) with the Teradata Analytics Platform, their joint solution should help to make smart cities even smarter and better networked in the future.
Cisco and Teradate want to create a powerful solution for integrated data exchange. The Cisco Kinetic for Cities platform is characterized by the secure collection, aggregation and normalization of information from various isolated urban applications in areas such as lighting, traffic and parking management.
Teradata’s data analytics solution links this data with other information – for example from citizen surveys, information from payment systems and analytical applications.
This allows the municipalities to draw extensive insights from their data. Through various analysis methods and easy-to-understand visualizations, those responsible could make more informed, data-based decisions.
“Cities are currently in a process of rethinking and are beginning to realize that their data has a real value that can provide new services and capabilities to better serve their citizens and visitors. To achieve this, smart cities must have access to a comprehensive and robust analysis ecosystem. Cisco and Teradata platforms are cornerstones of such an ecosystem, enabling city managers to make better, data-driven decisions“. – Stephen Brobst (Chief Technology Officer at Teradata.)
Such combined solutions could automatically detect security incidents and problems in smart cities, for example, generate corresponding warning messages, locate traffic and parking bottlenecks, avoid traffic jams through optimized traffic lights – and also determine the best routes for emergency and emergency vehicles.
